The Catholic Girl’s Traditional 30-Day Journal

Let’s keep our young girls engaged in the Faith! Let’s teach them how to be organized, how to prioritize, how to keep on top of, first, the Spiritual things in their life, and then the other daily duties that God requires of them!

Nothing is more valuable than this type of education…an education for life! That is where this journal comes in! It will give your girls a feel for keeping a To-Do List, with spiritual things at the forefront! What more could you want for them?

Let this journal help you along the way, Mothers! The girls will have 30 days of checklists, beautiful thoughts to inspire them for the day, some fun things…like drawing their day and other things to keep them focused.

This next 30 days will be invaluable to them…to learn life skills, to have the satisfaction of checking off the activities they finish, to learn to be thankful for the  good things God has given us, to offer up their day for someone in need, etc.

This journal is for girls 8 (with the help of Mom) to 16 years of age.

It is a beautiful journal, full of color and loveliness! Your girls will treasure it and be able to look back on it for inspiration and encouragement!

You can pre-order the book here, if you like.

A Poem

The Old-Fashioned Parents

The good old-fashioned mothers and the good old-fashioned dads,
With their good old-fashioned lassies and their good old-fashioned lads,
Still walk the lanes of loving in their simple, tender ways,
As they used to do back yonder in the good old-fashioned days.

They dwell in every city and they live in every town,
Contentedly and happy and not hungry for renown;
On every street you’ll find ’em in their simple garments clad,
The good old-fashioned mother and the good old-fashioned dad.

There are some who sigh for riches, there are some who yearn for fame,
And a few misguided people who no longer blush at shame;
But the world is full of mothers, and the world is full of dads;
Who are making sacrifices for their little girls and lads.

They are growing old together, arm in arm they walk along,
And their hearts with love are beating and their voices sweet with song;
They still share their disappointments and they share their pleasures, too,
And whatever be their fortune, to each other they are true.

They are watching at the bedside of a baby pale and white,
And they kneel and pray together for the care of God at night;
They are romping with their children in the fields of clover sweet,
And devotedly they guard them from the perils of the street.

They are here in countless numbers, just as they have always been,
And their glory is untainted by the selfish and the mean.
And I’d hate to still be living, it would dismal be and sad,
If we’d no old-fashioned mother and we’d no old-fashioned dad.

~Edgar A. Guest

Have any of you ever been to a Renaissance Festival? We let our older kids go one year….and it was the last year that they went. Sure, there were many things to see, neat costumes and some fun. But it was riddled with the world…and something we definitely weren’t going to go back to experience.

Well…instead it came to us! And it is clean, wholesome fun for the whole family! Why don’t you try to make it this year?

The play The Twelfth Night will be put on each night of the Festival. Check out this post to see other festivities going on there. It would be worth the trip to make it (even if you don’t like Shakespeare)!

And now….A really Great Giveaway!!!!

The winner will receive a beautiful apron made by Gin!!(Thank you, Gin, for generously donating this beautiful work of art!)

Also included is the Catholic Woman’s Gratitude Journal!

Just leave a comment here, and your name will be added! It is always great to hear from you. 🙂

I will announce the winner next Thursday, August 8th!

Here is a complete guide to mature, responsible, even noble behavior in our complex modern society. Written in the 1930s by a wise Jesuit priest and steeped in the wisdom of the ages, these pages teach the timeless principles that have led countless souls to true success and lasting happiness.

Without condescension, Fr. Garesché shows how to maintain a healthy mind, resist temptations, grow temperate, practice fortitude, think kindly of others, and choose worthwhile amusements. He even explains how to accept criticism graciously and how to develop the kind of confidence that is not rooted in pride, but is the necessary foundation for any life that will be productive and holy. Once you assimilate the wisdom here, you’ll know how to find genuine success the success that transcends money, fame, and pleasure.

Fr. Garesché shows you how to become an apostle for Christ in myriad ways, not only at home among your family and friends, but even at work. You’ll learn how to talk about religion with your friends as naturally as you discuss sports or current events. He even gives you tips on how you can bear witness to your faith in Jesus Christ not just in what you say, but in what you do.

Our annual Traditional Family Weekend is around the corner. Below is the invitation and you are welcome to take part!

Here is the promotional video (Friday Night Potluck and Social will take the place of the dance.)

Also, coming up this fall, in this locale, is the fantastic Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival!  It is a great event and all are welcome!

This is the 2018 Promotional Video to give you an idea….

And here is an older post that I wrote about the Festival with pictures, etc.

An Update on Rosie…

Through the help of a couple of very good Catholic doctors, it turns out Rosie most likely has POTS. This stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. It is a condition that affects circulation (blood flow). It involves the autonomic nervous system (which automatically controls and regulates vital bodily functions) and sympathetic nervous system (which activates the fight or flight response).

From Cleveland Clinic…

Each case of POTS is different. POTS patients may see symptoms come and go over a period of years.

There are various forms of POTS. The most common are:

  • Neuropathic POTS: Peripheral denervation (loss of nerve supply) leads to poor blood vessel muscles, especially in the legs and core body.
  • Hyperadrenergic POTS: Overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system
  • Low blood volume POTS: Reduced blood volume can lead to POTS. Low blood volume can cause similar symptoms that may overlap in neuropathic and hyperadrenergic POTS

*******

Her recovery from this bout has been painfully slow but we are getting progress. Rosie has not had a “seizure/episode” for a while now. The “up times” are getting longer and she can do some real work outside (which she loves)! By late afternoon and evening Rosie checks out and goes to her room where she reads, prays, crochets and listens to audio books. She would love to take part in what goes on in the family at these times, but not yet….

Anyway, I wanted to give you an update and thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray for us as we continue on this journey! Thank you!

And Now…..A Giveaway!

The winner will receive this lovely  handcrafted Rosary Bracelet set. Take your Rosary wherever you go!

Also included is this lovely doily made by Rosie.

Just leave a comment here, and your name will be added! It is always great to hear from you. 🙂

I will announce the winner next Wednesday, June 5th!

Parents should remember this: children can get along happily without constantly demanding their parents’ attention, provided there are regular times when Dad or Mom have no concern except being with them.

If we are riddled with anxieties instead of leaving them in God’s hands, we can’t offer our children that kind of time, and they will never feel secure in our love, no matter how many expensive gifts we lavish on them. -Fr. Jacques Philippe, Interior Freedom

There’s nothing complicated or magical about learning to be kinder; it just takes greater attention to the things that you do and how you do them. The Hidden Power of Kindness shows you how to become more aware of even your most offhand daily actions. You’ll find simple, step-by-step, and spiritually crucial directions for how to overcome the habitual unkindnesses that creep undetected into the behavior of even the most careful souls.

From the thousands of personal letters by St. Francis de Sales comes this short, practical guide that will develop in you the soul-nourishing habits that lead to sanctity.

Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival – Convivial & Cultural

20 Wednesday Sep 2017

It has been a tiring but lovely 2 weeks for us. Each year, in the autumn, we run 2 booths at the Shakespeare Festival which keeps us very busy. We bump into a lot of people that we have known through the years and we get to know others who live in the locale and touch base with them. It is two weekends in a row, from Friday to Sunday, 5pm – 11pm.

To give you an idea what the Shakespeare Festival is (because, you know, you may want to come next year!!) here is an excerpt from their website:

The Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival is a community based initiative focused on providing patrons with classical outdoor theater under the stars of Northeast Kansas.

Each fall the festival transforms a wood affectionately known as Sir William’s Hollow into an outdoor Shakespearean Amphitheater and Festival. Located in St. Marys, Kansas the festival was established in 2010 and has grown into a successful annual event. Last year’s performances saw over 6,000 theater enthusiasts attend over two weekends.

Videos:

The Festival flew in Dr. Joseph Pearce who is an expert on Shakespeare and a renowned literary scholar! We have purchased and listened to some of his downloads so we were excited that he was coming to talk at the Festival! It was great!

Next year, he will come again and will expound on the Shakespearean Play, Merchant of Venice, which will be the feature play of 2018!

Father Kodet came and played his concertina more than once during the two weekends of the Festival.

Angelo had his own game booth this year. It was quite a responsibility. He did very well with it…it was a hit with the kids!

The last Saturday of the Festival (Sept. 16th) proved to be a very sad day for many. Daniel McDonald, 18 years old, was the lead singer and guitarist of the “Boys from the Shed” band and was heading to play at the Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival when he got into an accident that took his life. He came from a family of 12 children. Please keep him and his loved ones in your prayers.

quote for the day2

“Being feminine does not mean being giggly, unintelligent, incompetent or unreliable. Instead, our femininity is an assignment from God. It is how God created us. It is a character that is imprinted deeply upon us, which is made apparent in our physical bodies, and by how we speak, act and dress.” -Colleen Hammond, Dressing With Dignity

Check it out!

I know that in the scope of things, this is a very small “cause”. But if we do not take the time to reach the youth, if we do not provide for them some good wholesome recreation, if we do not try to instil in them Catholic culture, we will most assuredly lose them. They will seek their outlets elsewhere. This is something we will try to avoid by making every sacrifice we can.

So…If you would like to donate, or know of anyone that might be interested, the link is on this post.

Here is the invite:
