👼The Message of the Angels ~ Goodwill👼

My Meditation on the Gospel

May we be a people of good will!

1. The appearance over Bethlehem of the beautiful choirs of angels; the unearthly loveliness of their song.
2. The grace to be “of good will.”

Joseph and Mary knelt beside the little manger and gazed with joy at their infant Who was God made man. They were breathless with wonder and peace. They stared at the Child Jesus as though they could hardly believe their eyes.

The cold didn’t bother them; the smell of the stable and the rude coarseness of the straw on which they knelt were hardly noticed. Their thoughts were lost in God.

How good He was to come to save us! How kind He was to them that they should have a part in it! Their joy and wonder made the stable seem warm and beautiful.

The angels God sent to the shepherds must have caught the spirit of the stable. They almost sang the message: “Good news of great joy, which shall be for all the people.”

And even as they spoke, an untold multitude of angels took up the refrain as they appeared in the heavens and their song was like the melody of silver trumpets. It was almost as though they could no longer be silent.

“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men of good will.”

Dear Angels of God, no wonder you sang of good will as you gazed on that lovely scene in the stable. It is our will that determines the degree of our love and the measure of our cheerfulness in sacrifice.

The men of good will are those who love God sincerely, both in joy and in sorrow, in fervor and in dryness.

Men of good will don’t have to depend upon feelings to give themselves cheerfully to God’s service; they don’t live by mood or whim or caprice. They love God sincerely. And so, whatever He sends they take with such cheerfulness and good grace Like Joseph and Mary, they make the best of what they have!

O Angels of God, what true peace comes to men of good will — a peace from within, the warmth and joy of their own splendid hearts!

Dear Father of all I want to love You in this manner—sincerely, completely! Teach me that love—true love—is in the will, not the feelings. Let me never give way to moods or self-pity, no matter how high the obstacles or how hard the work.

Moods have been my undoing in the past. Self-pity has been a constant snare. And when I lived by the moods and whims, I had absolutely no peace or joy–no strong fresh sense of loving You, my Father — just an awful sickening emptiness of being small and loving self!
