NEW! Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows ~ Wonderful Promises! / What is a Chaplet and Why Say It?

Share

I love praying with chaplets! There’s something about holding the beads and following the prayers that helps me become more recollected. The variety of chaplets—and the beautiful promises associated with many of them—make them an inspiring companion for anyone seeking to grow closer to God.

The two chaplets I focus daily  on are, of course, the rosary…which is in the broad sense, a chaplet. The word chaplet originally meant a “little crown.” In Catholic devotion it came to mean a set of prayers recited on beads in honor of Our Lord, Our Lady, an angel, or a saint. By that definition, the Rosary is the most famous and most important chaplet.

I also like to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet each day. Our world, all of us, are in so much need of Our Lord’s mercy! I say that one especially for the people or situations I am worried about that day.

Besides that, I rotate from different chaplets. These days, I am saying the Chaplet of the Holy Face. I love the Chaplet of the Holy Wounds and my mom daily said the Chaplet of St. Michael. The Chaplet of the Holy Infant Jesus can be said for financial situations, The Chaplet of the Holy Ghost can be said when seeking answers, etc.

They are very efficacious and well worth the time.

Here is a beautiful book with many different chaplets. It is available here.

What Is a Chaplet?

A chaplet is a form of Catholic prayer devotion that is usually prayed with a set of beads and offered in honor of a Person of the Holy Trinity, Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the angels, or a particular saint. Chaplets help deepen love and devotion toward the one being honored and encourage the faithful to grow in prayer and holiness.

Throughout the history of the Church, many beautiful devotions have arisen to strengthen the spiritual life of the faithful. Some have developed to renew interest in forgotten traditions, while others have been given to meet the spiritual needs of a particular age. As faith grows weak or religious customs fall into neglect, these devotions often help rekindle fervor and draw souls back to God.

Among the many chaplets cherished by Catholics are those dedicated to Divine Mercy, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Holy Face, the Holy Spirit, the Precious Blood, the Holy Angels, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Anthony of Padua, the Infant Jesus, the Blessed Sacrament, and the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady. Each offers a unique way of meditating upon the mysteries of our faith and seeking God’s grace.

Chaplets have long served as spiritual weapons in the Church’s struggle against sin and error. In every generation, Christians face temptations, false ideas, and moral challenges that threaten the life of faith. Prayerful devotion, together with frequent reception of the sacraments, helps strengthen souls against these dangers.

The Catholic Encyclopedia describes a chaplet as a type of spiritual crown. In this sense, each chaplet becomes an offering of honor and praise to God, Our Lady, the angels, and the saints. At the same time, these prayers help us store up treasures in heaven and prepare for eternal glory.

Just a Note

We should be careful not to burden ourselves by trying to pray every beautiful devotion we discover. The Church offers an abundance of prayers not so that we feel obliged to say them all, but so that each soul can find those devotions that best foster a deeper love for God. A few prayers prayed faithfully and attentively are often far more fruitful than many recited hurriedly or from a sense of obligation.

Think of chaplets as helpful companions. They give structure to our prayer, keep our minds focused, teach us the mysteries of our faith, and invite us to meditate on particular virtues or events in the lives of Our Lord, Our Lady, and the saints. They are wonderful servants—but they should always lead us toward a deeper relationship with God, never become a substitute for it.

(Including the Prayer Guide)

I have been wanting to make this chaplet for some time now. It is a lovely tribute to Our Lady ‘s sufferings!

Some of my children are dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady.

The devotion has many wonderful promises!

  • “I will grant peace to their families.”
  • “They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries.”
  • “I will console them in their pains and will accompany them in their work.”
  • “I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.”
  • “I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.”
  • “I will visibly help them at the moment of their death– they will see the face of their mother.”
  • “I have obtained this grace from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors
will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.”

Why Meditate on Mary’s Sorrows?

Mary’s sufferings are not separate from Christ’s.

She suffered:

  • because she loved Him perfectly,
  • because she understood His mission more deeply than anyone,
  • because she willingly united her heart to His sacrifice.

The purpose of the chaplet is to…

  • understand the cost of sin,
  • appreciate Christ’s sacrifice,
  • grow in compassion,
  • learn patience in suffering,
  • unite our own crosses to those of Jesus and Mary.

The Church’s devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows centers on her spiritual martyrdom and her compassion with the sufferings of her Son.

“When we hold that tiny bundle in our arms for the very first time, a flood of hopes and dreams emerges like a great blue whale cresting to spout his spray into the air. But somewhere in the day-to-day busyness of life, encouraging words can get lost among the to-dos and not-to-dos. We need to take a fresh look at motherhood and recapture the commitment to be the great encouragers along a child’s journey toward adulthood.” -Sharon Jaynes, The Power of a Woman’s Words (Painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau)

Jesus, I Surrender Myself to You: The Life of Don Dolindo Ruotolo ~ Available here.

Overview

Jesus, I Surrender Myself to You is both a moving spiritual biography and a profound witness to the transforming power of surrender to God’s will. Drawing from the living memory of Don Dolindo Ruotolo through the testimony of his devoted niece Grazia, alongside the careful research of Luciano Regolo, this work reveals the hidden sanctity of a priest whose life became a continual offering to Christ.

From a childhood marked by poverty, suffering, and misunderstanding to years of ecclesial persecution endured in silence, Don Dolindo’s life was forged through obedience, humility, and radical trust in Divine Providence. Though burdened with immense trials, he developed an astonishing intimacy with Christ, becoming a spiritual father whose simple prayer of surrender continues to bring peace and consolation to countless souls around the world.

Interwoven with firsthand accounts, Marian devotion, Eucharistic spirituality, and extraordinary graces, this book offers readers not merely the story of a mystic, but a practical path toward holiness. Don Dolindo demonstrates that true sanctity is not found in comfort or recognition, but in abandoning oneself completely into the loving hands of God.
